Life and animation

Posted by Fierras Jun. 24, 2008 @ 8:26 AM EDT

Right now I'm a bit anxious. Why, you ask? Well in about two hours i'm getting the results from last schoolyear.

For my final jury I made an animation called 'hard boiled egg' which I submited earlier to newgrounds.

My first project was a 16min action/adventure animation called 'Root' which I had already storyboarded and the animatic was already done as well.
Tomamoto and other non-ng related voice actors recorded all the lines for the animation. Some friends also joined to make backgrounds and help with colouring. But when the time came to start animating they told me the project was just too big and that I should make something smaller.

I got kinda derailed at that point. I was really excited about the project and going all the way to get it done. The unexpected deviation made my mind go blank for a couple of days. The only thing I could think about at that point was the effort I had put into the animation and the people I got involved in the project that I had let down. Or at least it felt that way.

After a week or so I started playing around with some idea's, making small storyboard sketches and puzzling around with them. But there wasn't anything that got me satisfied enough to go all the way.

Then one day I was on the train and the idea for 'hard boiled egg' came in one swoop.

I made the storyboard and animatic relatively quickly about 2-3 days
And with the rest of the time I got till the deadline I just used to experiment and mess around.

And that's the story of how this animation came to existence.

Now i'm off to school, seeya guys.

I only understood that movie after I read one of the reviews. It definitely makes sense, though.

Very cool =D

oops actually hit send and didnt complete my review. anyways. aside from Tomamoto sounding like Christian Slater (which aint a bad thing btw).

I thought the message behind the flash kinda super contrived (which I know is the point you're making)
and a couple of the pre-made effects effects were a turn off. Mind you have I no problem with them if used sparingly but there seems to be a bit too much ..

i've actually just used one, maybe two premade effects to save some time. All the rest was self made. It's hard for me to know how something will hit the audience because I make the animations for myself. Which sometimes can be confusing for others to watch.

I would agree with you on the usage of premade effects if they were controling the point of the story or where it was going . But it's the other way around. The story was first and the effects came later to make the exact kind of visualization possible.

I appreciate you coming back to extend your previous review. this one is much better and actually helps me out. :)
