stopmotion workshop last week

Posted by Fierras Oct. 18, 2008 @ 8:03 PM EDT

Last week I went to a stopmotion workshop. The workshop was so good that I regret not going to more in the past. Every day we were given assignments which became more and more complex. We were given scrap to make our own characters, which was very interesting. Because of the movement limitations we were forced to try some things out to see if we could get the wanted emotion or reaction. The workshop was given by José Miguel Ribeiro who is a very talented portuguese animator. The bottom animation 'abraço do vento' was made by him.

This animation is the result of the last two days of work. Sadly it didn't get finished because of the lack of time. There were also some things that needed cleaning like the blue that is supposed to be a blue key, but there wasn't any time for that either. :p

Looks great, I like how the tripod lights up more as it becomes interested in the hoover. There's some nice motion on it as well as it settles down, an inquisitive nature seems to be evident as well. It's a shame you didn't manage to get it finished, good luck with any future work.

The animation by José Miguel Ribeiro looks awesome, the blend between stop-motion and 2D works really well, made me do a double take.

Done a bit of stop motion myself a while back, is kinda relaxing.

yeh, we were totally absent from the rest of the world while animating the characters. That all changed when we were asked to hurry up :p . Then it was like crazy trying to get it done.

I loved your piece, more so than your teachers,

Amazing range and personality, great sense of weight, I just wish to god it was longer.

me too, we were rushing it in the end like crazy. Hoping we would get it done. But time was up and we were asked to start the recording of the sounds. While the two others were doing the recordings I tried to give the tripod a bit more personality with the light.

We did get the taste for stopmotion. Very likely we'l try to animate something together like this in the future. All we need is the time.

I would love a stopmotion workshop to happen somwhere where I live, due to the lack of space, peace and quiet where I live something like that would be ideal for me. I envy you.

Great work by the way, nice fluid movements and the robots had some great personality and character. Is a shame you couldn't finish it in time, but still an excellent piece nonetheless.
